SIDCOR Sunday Market


Last Sunday was my second visit to SIDCOR Sunday Market at Centris Walk. Weather was perfect for going around the the stalls in the open-air market.

We were there primarily to sample more of the food being offered. During our first visit, we got the following from one stall:  fried crablets (P100), fried crab meat in crab shell (P50/shell) and paella – chicken meat, quail eggs, bell peppers, raisins, peas  (P100). A serving of rice (P15) was plentiful that we had to take home the extra rice we ordered. I would think that the fare  from this particular stall varies weekly as the crabs were not available on our second visit. They had pancit though. Sorry, no pics from that time.

This time around we got lengua (P120), Hungarian Sausage Sandwich (P100) and Paella (P250). The lengua we got was already in small pieces. The sauce was a little bit bland formy taste. At the stall where we got it the P120 price is supposedly for rice and a choice of two viands.

We got the Hungarian Sausage from a stall selling sausage and pastries. Most of the sausages go for P85. The owner offered me samples of the sausages when I asked them what she would recommend. She proceeded to describe the sausages (which has cheese, which was spicy) as  I munched on the small bite size samples. I decided on the spicy Hungarian Sausage which was served on wheat hotdog bun. You get to personally put the condiments (mustard, mayo and ketchup) you prefer in the amount you want on your sandwich since they are placed out front. The sausage was quite juicy. They were also selling pastries. Some at P25. Samples were also being offered.

The paella was from a different stall from where we got our previous paella. The paella negra (the black one) has shrimp and squid while the other one has mussels, shrimp, bellpeppers and string beans. This was served with a lemon wedge and a tub of mayo. Between this and the first paella we tasted, I’d prefer this.

The dining area has wooden tables with plastic coverlet and plastic stools and chairs as well as large fans. There are people who will clean after you, but you could just pick up your trash and stuff them into the are large black trash bags tied to posts in the area.

They now have a site map near the dining area. I have marked the location of  the stalls which I was drawn to, to the best that I could remember. Holding the map, your back should be to EDSA. Centris Station should be at left.

Since we live far from Quezon City and have our own sukis at the wet market near our place, we bypassed the stalls selling seafood and fruits. We went through the ones selling plants, pets and dry goods.

We got a couple of gift bags. They’re P15 a piece retail, P10 for wholesale. Wholesale’s 12 pieces. Material’s similar to those of eco-totes for grocery shopping. There are a couple of sizes to choose from. The ones I picked measure 24x26cm and can be used by receiver later for carrying notebooks or baon.

During our visit, the female comfort room’s clean. Bathroom tissue dispenser was well stocked. There were around eight toilets, large mirrors and three lavatories.

Vendors wore color coded shirts, based on what they are selling and matching the color-coding on the map.

It’s best to come early as some vendors were already packing up when we went there at around lunch time the first time.

There are a couple of restaurants outside  of the market but within the  Centris Walk:  Jack’s Loft, Pancake House, Claw Daddy, Italiannis,  My Thai Kitchen, Pho Hoa, Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, Tutti Frutti (a yogurt place). They surround a small children’s playground.

Centris Walk is near Eton Cyberpod Centris which is beside Centris Station which is connected to the Quezon Avenue MRT Station (Northbound side). At night you’d see the sisters of the metal mushrooms below all a-glow from the MRT. It’s right behind those mushrooms.
