I’m wearing this frosted silver nail polish by Caronia right now. Silver Platinum, it say in the label. I think mom used to purchase a bottle of this or a similar shade right until she gravitated towards frosted pink nail polishes. I would have worn something blue because it’s been a rough year for us, for many of us. My aunt in law and my uncle passed away early this year while Yolanda victims are still grieving or have yet to grieve for their own relatives and losses.

I’m gonna be a Debbie Downer here and recall some of the Yolanda stories I’ve heard. My mom on the plane home  from SG related to us her seatmate’s story of how they would bump against floating dead bodies while they braved chest deep waters to escape to higher grounds. My brother’s officemate went home to Leyte to bury his parents. They couldn’t find caskets or an embalmer. They had no choice but to dig and bury them, covered in just blankets, not embalmed, in their backyard.  Also in the aftermath, a friend’s grandma complained “Why is it so dark? Turn on the lights!” not knowing there’s no electricity in the entire region.

Amidst all the tales of tragedy, are stories of selflessness. At the end of this post are links to some of those stories, the ones published in the Super Section of the Inquirer a month ago. We have an outpouring of support from international communities. Information on foreign aid for Yolanda victims coursed through the government is being recorded in this online portal, Foreign Aid Transparency Hub (FAiTH). A lot of companies and organizations have opted not to have  extravagant Christmas parties this year and instead donate. People helped in a way that they know how. The Yolanda tragedy united people and brought out the best in them. On a personal level, this year’s downs made me more appreciative of what we have and of my family and friends. So I think silver is the better nail polish shade to don this season as “every cloud has a silver lining.”

This nail polish is from the loot I’ve received from Caronia for garnering one of the higher scores in their Match and Play Game on facebook for the month of September. Caronia Silver Platinum is a frosted silver polish shade, not quite metallic, with discernible shimmers in bottle, not so discernible on one’s nails. Swipe one coat for a somewhat pearly silver sheen. I was able to get away with this at work. Three coats give the shade in the bottle. It makes for a great polish for December brides.

Caronia nail polishes and products are available at the beauty section of leading department stores, the best selection I’ve seen is at Landmark. For more on Caronia, visit their website and interact with them and fellow nail addicts on their facebook page.
